Bloggers talk a lot about having a niche and working it. Becoming an expert in your niche in some cases is key to a bloggers success and this is true for small business owners too. Google loves fresh new, up to date content and what better way to populate your website than with useful hints, tips and articles around your genre. A blog provides a useful resources and is a great way to pitch yourself as an expert in your genre whether you sell toys or are a plumber.
Just how do you become the Go To Expert for your small business? Dina Behrman?s post is not only full of top tips but also hits the nail on the head ?Leveraging the power of the media to position yourself as an expert and show that your an authority in her field.?
- Find Your Niche : It might be easy you sell bikes or sell one service but a gardener on the other hand might choose to niche down their blog for just tips for gardening with children, or taking care of trees or being self sufficient. That way their expertise stands out from other gardeners. Amanda from Spiderworking.com has these excellent tips for finding your blog niche.
- Guest Blogging : Writing articles and being published not only builds up your portfolio but also increases your audience. Sian has some great tips on Tweak Your Biz for getting guest articles published.
- Run webinars and courses : MBE owning small business guru Shaa Wasmund has a whole post dedicated to how you can establish yourself as an expert in your field. I think her point on running webinars and courses as a good way to make money and showcase your expertise is my favourite. How often do you sign up to a webinar or start an ecourse based on who the person selling it to you is! I bet it?s pretty much all the time as this individual has sold themselves as an expert in their genre and you buy into that.
- Write a book : I wrote my book ?Crafting a Successful Small Business? back in 2012. I was able to establish myself as a craft business expert becoming both a Sage Business Expert and until it?s demise a regular expert in CraftSeller Magazine. You don?t have to write a full on book you can always look a smaller set of ebooks which enhance your expert status.
